In the context of the fourth foundation of mindfulness, phenomena, objects, or dhammas has two interconnected meanings. One meaning is mental factors - which will be directly seen as states of mind that color consciousness and the other meaning is the elements of actuality, the ultimate constituents of experience as structured in the Buddha's teaching.Through the weekend we will practice the direct methods of seeing the true nature of both.
The point of these meditations and contemplations is to clearly see egolessness or anatta as lacking in oneself, being completely empty and occurring without support. The freedom and vastness encountered through these practices are the Theravadin equivalent of what is to be recognized and practiced through the Indo-Tibetan practices of Mahamudra and Dzogchen.
Everyone is welcome to attend this retreat. While it would be beneficial to have some experience to have some familiarity with mindfulness of breathing, mindfulness of body, mindfulness of feelings, and mindfulness of mind practices they are not prerequisite for attendance in this retreat. In Indo-Tibetan Buddhist terms these practices are similar to and collectively known as Mahamudra and Dzogchen.
This retreat will be done using our satellite center broadcast technology, so local groups will be hosting this retreat in various locations around the world. Please contact Dave Rodenbaugh to find out more about a community near you, or how to host your own retreat gathering!
