Tsik Sum Ne Dek: Striking the Essence

Dzogchen is the supreme essence teaching in Buddhism. It is also known in Sanskrit as Mahasandhi or Atiyoga. It is the highest of the nine yogas in the ancient Nyingma lineage of Tibet. Dzogchen means great completeness or perfection.

Dzogchen is beautiful in both its simplicity and directness, but may seem difficult to grasp at first, as it is a direct experience, not an intellectual concept. Dzogchen cannot be grasped intellectually as it is the experience of pure awareness that comes through being relaxed and spontaneously open. This state is distinctive from conceptualization which is the state of mind that clings with attachment to its own thought processes. All concepts present a grasping duality by their very nature: for example when we say something, “is easy,” we infer that some other thing, “is difficult,” and in this way all concepts are dualistic.

The quality of our minds is like a reflection of the world in a mountain spring. Since mind perfectly reflects all of our experience it is vital that we know the qualities of our mind, and finally begin to experience it as it is: a vast emptiness of pure potential.

All are welcome. May All be well, happy, safe, peaceful, and at ease.
