Gen-la Chokyi Dhakpa

Mahamudra (Skt: "Great Seal") is the cornerstone of the Kagyu tradition--its highest and most respected practice. To begin the practice of Mahamudra is to examine the essence of our world and our mind in the most direct manner possible.

The successful practice of Mahamudra, which is really the successful practice of coming into contact with true reality, we must rise above our own hopes, fears and expectations that are the natural product of our culture. To this end, we must train in the Twelve Preliminaries that prepare our minds for the Pointing Out instructions that come with Mahamudra.

This retreat will take practitioners of all levels and prepare them for Mahamudra by learning about the purpose and practice of:
  • The Common Preliminaries (Four Thoughts)
  • The Uncommon Preliminaries (Ngondro)
  • The Extraordinary Preliminaries
Each practice will take our minds into more subtle realms of letting go of attachment, aversion and indifference--all obstacles to seeing the true nature of reality.

This retreat is suitable for all levels of practitioners and beginners are especially encouraged to attend, since Mahamudra is the single most important practice anyone in our lineage can train in.

This retreat will be done using our satellite center broadcast technology, so local groups will be hosting this retreat in various locations around the world. Please contact Dave Rodenbaugh to find out more about a community near you, or how to host your own retreat gathering!
