SDC Annual Renunciation Sale

It's that time of the year for our annual Renunciation Sale!

As a Buddhist community, we all know about the qualities that lead us to enlightenment--renunciation, correct view and bodhicitta. However, putting them into practice can be challenging at times. This time of the year, we're offering the perfect opportunity to practice renunciation and take a look at all the clutter you may have accumulated over the year(s) and do something about it!

Our Renunciation Sale will be held in central Denver on Friday August 18th and Saturday August 19th. Time and location details will follow, but it will be an all-day event both days.

How can you help? LOTS of things can be done:

1. Donate stuff! You probably have a closet, attic, garage or basement filled with stuff you haven't looked at, used, or even remembered you have in a long time. Maybe it's time to let it go! There's only one rule for giving: PLEASE DO NOT DONATE ANYTHING THAT IS BASICALLY JUNK OR TRASH. It must be in working condition, and it should be something usable. (A shirt is good, a dirty, stained shirt with holes is not). When donating, please put a suggested price on EVERY item! Unpriced items will not be accepted for donation.
2. Help setup/cleanup/sell! The sale itself is a fun place to be. If you're a good negotiator, or like to talk to people, we can use your help! We also need to make the sale look attractive so lots of people buy things, and we'll need help donating everything at the end to a charity if it doesn't sell.
3. Help bake some cookies/brownies/whatever! A cookie is a great way to break the ice with a potential customer, and gives them a reason to stick around and look some more instead of going to eat lunch. Help us out and bring some great food!
4. Help with advertising! If you tell people about it, they will come! We're going to have the sale in the Highlands of Denver (near 32nd & Lowell) which is a high-traffic area. We'll need ads in the local newspapers and signs made and put up in the general vicinity.
5. Help with getting stuff to Denver! Denver is the best place for a sale just because of the large population, but the mountain communities have plenty to offer. We need help getting stuff from each community down to Denver before the sale. Maybe you have a truck, or just like to drive one!

Each community will have sign up sheets this week to get help for the upcoming sale. We hope you take this important opportunity to practice some renunciation and help all beings reach enlightenment!
